Betts out, van Riemsdyk gets bell wrung

The Flyers penalty killing and face off winning machine Blair Betts will miss a month due to a dislocated right shoulder according to the team's General Manager Paul Holmgren. The Flyers PK has given up only 2 goals in 18 chances so far this season and that has been thanks in part to the contributions of Betts, as well as fellow newcomer Ian Laperriere.

Homer also pointed out that rookie left winger James vanRiemsdyk "had his bell wrung" and that he would be evaluted later on.

Losing Betts hurts as now Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne will all have to pick up more minutes on the penalty kill to make up for his abscene. Losing van Riemsdyk, who has 3 assists in 3 games since surprising most and making the big club out of camp, hurts the team's depth. Here's hoping that his injury isn't serious.

The team will need both Betts and van Riemsdyk back on the ice quickly in order to keep having success in this young season.
